Jonathan Bartholomew, Cordless Smart Solutions Consultant conquers Mount Kilimamjaro for charity

The Consultants at Cordless are known not to be fazed by a challenge and it was this very attitude that saw our Smart Solutions Specialist Jonathan Bartholomew agree to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Jonathan was one of 26 people that undertook the 5.5 day challenge to raise funds for the charity Dig Deep, which works in Kenya to provide people access to clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene.

Located in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s tallest mountain at 5,895m tall. It is a volcano and also the largest free-standing mountain rise in the world. As Jonathan climbed for up to 10 hours a day, he experienced the amazing array of conditions that Kilimanjaro had to offer. Not only did the temperature drop from around 19 degrees during the day to minus 15 degrees at night, but the climate also changed from rainforest to desert; to everything in between.

In true Cordless style, Jonathan struck up a great relationship with the rest of the challenge team, keeping his peers motivated as the climb got harder; finishing off by donating his walking poles and warm clothing to the organisers to help on future expeditions.

Jonathan commented: “Climbing Kilimanjaro was an amazing challenge and incredible experience. I did a lot of physical preparation and am a pretty fit person, but as the altitude kicked in for the last few hundred metres, I was pretty much crawling when I reached the top. I’ll take from this some incredible memories of what my team achieved, plus the scenery was awe inspiring – seeing 100m high glaciers is something I’ll never forget.”

Jonathan is now considering what to do for his next challenge. Send us your ideas!
