CoreNet FutureFocus 2024: “NexGen is our opportunity for change…”

Cordless thoroughly enjoyed being part of the recent CoreNet FutureFocus event at Deutsche Bank’s impressive London HQ on 17th October.

With brilliant discussions sprinkling the day, some of Real Estate’s leading voices came together to share their vision for the workplace of the future.

In this technology-enabled world, never has it been more important to keep people at the heart of workplace design. Spaces need to harmonise new technologies with the human, creating inspiring environments where everyone can thrive equally.

One key group at the forefront of this change are the Next Generation of office workers. With the event themed around the importance of embracing discomfort and leaning into opportunities for change, we particularly loved the quote: “Young people aren’t intimated by technology; they run towards it and want it to make their work lives as easy as possible.” Alex Wolfe, Ocado Technology.

This sentiment resonates with us at Cordless Consultants as it’s something many of our clients are tackling. How do we magnetise the office, not mandate it?

Research undertaken by CoreNet and Fora suggests that by 2025, NextGen will make up over a quarter of the workforce in OECD countries. This is a generation demands that more. More flexibility, inclusivity and workplaces that put wellbeing on par with career progression.

Born into a hyper-connected world and shaped by pandemics, economic uncertainty and climate change, our young professionals want stability, purpose and work life balance. They expect a digitally integrated workplace that will help them grow.

So, what does the ideal future workplace look like for NextGen?

The report suggests:

  • Flexible, agile working supporting new team dynamics.
  • Socially integrated environments nurturing human connections and creativity.
  • Space designed for inclusion and diversity, supporting different physical, cultural and cognitive needs, making people feel welcome and supported.
  • Amenities combining with culture, advocating mental and physical wellbeing, reducing stress and increasing resilience during challenging times.
  • Seamless smart technology integrating to enhance the workplace experience.
  • AI and training, embracing digitisation and new ways of working.
  • Personalised career paths, supported with development programmes and mentorships.
  • Commitment to social equity, climate and sustainability, creating a shared sense of purpose, increasing engagement and motivation.

The importance of these points was felt across the event and beyond, reminding us that we all have a part to play in shaping the workplace of the future.

Cordless would like to thank everyone that participated in the event and for all the conversations that are still happening as a result.
