Cordless contributes to panel for International Women’s Day 2024
Cordless was delighted to attend a IWD panel organised by Freshwave entitled: ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress’.
As we marked International Women’s Day 2024, the diversity and inclusion themed discussion inspired thinking around the campaign for empowering future female generations in our industry; sharing experiences, achievements and advancements made.
When our stories were shared, it was clear that this conversation is about more than just gender, it is about inclusivity and respect for all different kinds of people. Different ages, backgrounds, neurodiversity and socio-economic influences… we all have something to bring to enrich the culture of the workplace.
The panel considered why recruiting women into the technology, engineering and construction industries is a challenge. What more could our education systems do to encourage women to study for and gain STEM qualifications?
Once in the workplace, it was clear that the involvement of mentors and role models, both male and female, could not be more important to making people feel valued, supported and empowered. Our workplace cultures must also evolve to cultivate diversity through a sense of belonging for everyone, allowing us all to develop relevant knowledge and skills and embrace our full potential.
When things have been done a certain way for so many years, change might be painful, but we must put the effort in to take inclusion in the workplace seriously and give people the tools and flexibility they need to develop and make a difference.
Honour a growth mindset and recognise that failure is part of learning. Inclusivity is not a destination. It should be an ongoing conversation and a commitment that is respected and celebrated.
